Stitch Magazine
Interweave has just launched Stitch Magazine dedicated to sewing enthusiasts. I got to check out the debut issue and I was pleasantly surprised. The best thing for me was that the magazine includes full size patterns for unique skirts, some of which I would actually make. For a sewing magazine, the projects are oriented to a younger and more hip audience. Three more issues are planned for Spring, Summer and Fall 2009.

Cookstr Launches
Ever since the NY Times article about Cookstr, I have been looking forward to the Cookstr launch. Cookstr features recipes from famous chefs for free with the hope that it will lead you to buy the cookbooks of your favorite chefs. Yesterday Cookstr launched their beta site. A lot of features and recipes aren't there yet, but I really like the search functionality that lets you refine results by a long list of attributes like skill, cost and season.

CRAFT: 09 on Newsstands Today!
Heads up, crafters! Today is a special day in more ways than one. Our new issue is on newsstands NOW!
Our theme this go-round is "Crafting Green"--so who better to model for our cover than crafter extraordinaire Betz White, who has gained a huge following (and rightly so) with her colorful recycled and felted creations. For CRAFT: 09, she shows readers how to create stylish totes and hats using fused plastic bags. So fun!
You'll also learn how to get started with hydroponic gardening, how to make beautiful pendants with Precious Metal Clay, how to make a stash box from vintage books, how to create a mosaic table, and how to turn old packing materials into giftable "gingerboard" houses. There are great gift ideas for the holidays, plus book reviews, recipes, and so much more.
Subscribe to CRAFT Magazine
Craftzine readers can now get $5 off a yearly subscription by entering the code MCRAFT. That's just $29.95 for 4 quarterly issues!

Welcome New CRAFT Blogger - Patti Schiendelman
As we bid a temporary farewell to Natalie, we'd like to extend a hearty welcome our newest blogger on the team, Patti Schiendelman! Patti's been blogging over at MAKE for several months now, and will be joining us here as well. Patti is a freelance indexer and editor who lives in Seattle, Washington. She's worked for Microsoft Press, Peachpit Press, and Make: Books. She's also dabbled in glass art, paper automata, robot building, knitting, and she used to work on cars. With her 14-year old son, she likes to geek out over the intersections of art and technology, technology and play, and science and daily life.
We're also excited to announce that our Maker Faire Austin blogger, Rachel Hobson, will be staying on as a regular contributor. So happy to have you guys aboard!

1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse - Call for Entries
Garth of Extreme Craft is working on an upcoming craft book, 1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse and has a call for entries for project submissions.
Garth writes:
I'll be writing 1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse, a book filled with 1000 (you read right) examples of craft, art and design made out of repurposed, reused and recycled materials. The book will be bristling with amazing contributions from artists and crafters around the world. What do you make out of reused stuff? I want to hear about it!
Read more in Garth's Extreme Craft post here.

Fashion Inside Out by Daniel Vosovic - Ask Daniel Your Fashion Questions on CRAFT!
Former Project Runway contestant and fashion designer Daniel Vosovic has a new book due out later this month called Fashion Inside Out: Daniel V's Guide to How Style Happens from Inspiration to Runway and Beyond. The book is a comprehensive guide on how to create fashion -- from inspiration and design, to the technical process of pattern-making and sewing, and finally selling your work to a client and taking it down the runway. Interspersed in the book are Q&A's from industry professionals too! There's never been such a book like this before so I'm really excited that it will be out soon.
But wait, there's more great news here! I've got an interview coming up later this month with Daniel V on the CRAFT blog. We'll be talking more about this new fashion book and find out what he's been up to lately. He's also agreed to take questions from you our readers!
So, if you have a question on how to sew that perfect dress or what's the latest fashion silhouette, please add your question as a comment to this post by Monday, October 6th, Noon PST and we'll collect and consolidate the best ones for him.

10% Off Everything in the Maker Shed use code CRZYDAN
PT @ MAKE writes:
Okay, we don't do a lot of promotions or discounts at the Maker Shed, but last month we ran a "Dog Days of Summer" promo. A ton of you responded gleefully. But some folks cried foul because you were squeezing in that last week of vacation before school started and you missed it. Fair enough. Now that we're all back at work or in school or testifying before congress for a $700 billion bail out plan, we're going to close out September with a very cool Back-to-School special: Not only will we give a very generous 10% off every order, but with every order of $25 or more, we're throwing in one of our new Maker Notebooks (think "inventor's notebook meets Moleskine at Maker Faire!). Check 'em out.
Use code CRZYDAN for the discount, the Maker's notebook will be added automatically.
But wait...while this offer is good through midnight San Francisco time September 30th, every couple of days the Maker Shed comrades have promised they'll be shaking things up and sneaking in some additional special offers throughout the week at MakerShed.com. Fair warning - This time, when it's over it's over. We won't have another discount like this again.
If you missed that use code CRZYDAN.

September Workshops at The Fabric Society in Mill Valley, CA
Check out the new schedule of craft workshops for September at newly revamped Ambatalia, now named The Fabric Society.
Ashley writes:
For those of you not on our mailing list I wanted to give an update of what is happening here at Ambatalia. Molly and I are collaborating under a new name The Fabric Society to create a resource center for sustainable textiles and innovative design. We are connecting with Bay Area art schools to give local fashion, textile, and product designers the oppurtunity to work with sustainable materials in a hands-on approach and have created ecologically-based workshops to educate youth and the larger community about the inherent interconnectedness between human and natual life and its role in the textile industry.
